This was the very first image I created with GIMP 2, an application, I used a tutorial called Abstract Wave Effect.

After I did the effect in GIMP I tried doing it with Photoshop CS5, but I did it based on what I remembered.

Compare and Contrast Programs
For this project of making an abstract wave effect on a blue background I used Gimp 2 and Photoshop CS5. Both the programs were similar because with both there is styling tools, effect filters; you can create banners and images, and can be used for photo editing.
They were different in the way that Photoshop is more complex in my opinion, also with Photoshop you can use masks, you have the option of HD photos, and upgrades. With GIMP you can easily find your way around and you can use scripting, Linux and Unix, and it is free. I did the image first using GIMP and it was simple in my opinion because I was using a tutorial, and it was very helpful and showed every step I needed. But when I got to Photoshop all the tools were stored inside each other and it made it more difficult for me, so to help me complete the Photoshop version of the wave effect I had to look around in the program and look online for help.
From this project, I learned about the editing program GIMP, and an alternative to paying so much money for Photoshop, and how to use it. Also, working with Photoshop refreshed my memory about it and I discovered other tools. I would prefer using GIMP at home because it is free for me to use, there is a lot of tutorials you can easily find online, and it will give me the knowledge of another editing programs.
